OOTD- Starry Starry

I am OBSESSED with stars!

I mean, OBSESSED!

I love the shape, all different sizes, all different colors.

I am so glad they have popped up everywhere this season because I cannot get enough.

I also couldn't wait to break out my new glittified heels...they held up pretty well!

Glitter AND stars...I am one happy girl!

DIY- Glitter Shoes!

Did anyone else notice the moon tonight?

It was Ca- Razy cool looking! Check it out tomorrow night if you can!

I wanted to share the latest of my DIY adventures with you!

My S-I-L (the go to baker, knitter, hair braider, sewer, overall domestic diva) and I decided to get together and indulge in one of our all time favorite things: GLITTER.

I am OBSESSED with the stuff!

We had both seen a few tutorials about glitterfying old/ damaged or just cute shoes in need of a little extra umph.

I used this, this, and this as inspiration.

It actually turned out to be pretty easy and I LOVE the finished product.

First, scour thrift stores, sales, or your own closet for any flat, heel, or boot that can be completely covered or just accented in whatever color glitter you desire.

(For glitter accents, tape off the parts you don't want covered. Use masking tape or painters tape.)

Then mix glue (we used ModgePodge) with a LOT of glitter. Put in a ton and then add some more. Mix together until you can't tell where the glitter stops and the glue starts and then add even more. Seriously, use a lot. The more the better, I found.

After that, paint on a few coats letting dry in between coats. Make sure to get an even coverage.

You can either stop here or when the last coat is dry put more plain glue and then sprinkle loose glitter over it. There's a few different ways to do it, and I've seen good results with lots of different methods.

It's seriously fun and addictive! I'm hopefully going back for round two with some CONS.
I need some red sparkly sneakers in my life.

S-I-L's custom blend of purple & gold Martha Stewart glitters. That lady really knows her stuff!
Mixing together- put the glue in first.

Use an old tablecloth you don't care about

The after: Adorable!

So much glitter so little time

Mixing a blend of silver & gold- mostly gold- for my bootsTaped off the back section and two toe caps. Def needed help for this part- straight lines are not my forte

Here they are all done and dry. Aren't they cool?!

Here's our table of fun. I also did a pair of plain black pumps that got a glittery blue sole and S-I-L did a pair of black peep toes she accented the front and heel with a black glitter. Both of her pairs turned out so good!

DIY- Elbow Patches: Bolts, Buttons, & Owls

Well, the crafting/ elbow patches were a huge success!!

My mom & dad are out of town so I am helping out with my niece that my mom is in charge of a few days a week. Yesterday was school, ballet class, and homework, and today she got out of school early so we went to the craft store, ran some errands, and watched half of Alice and Wonderland.

Then we headed over to my brother's house for elbow patch night with my
sister -in- law while my niece and nephew played together. We had a few little projects for them to do too, and I think they had fun. I also got dinner out of the deal - SCORE! and an AMAZING salted caramel cupcake! All the makings of an awesome night to me.

I made 2 bird pins out of pre-cut felt that I hot glued onto a pin back, and ribbon bookmarks with buttons at the top and bottom. Those turned out ok, but the elbow patches stole the show!!!!

My S-I-L FREE HANDED a lightening bolt onto bright yellow felt and we attached those with glue to my coziest striped sweater. (Have you ever tried to draw a lightening bolt that size with no pattern? It's way harder then it looks!) Then she had some owl fabric, so we used a heart cookie cutter to cut the patches, made a mark where my elbow is, and used iron on adhesive to attach to my green hoodie. Tell me this is not the most adorable thing you have ever seen!

Those were my projects. Hers was an embellished cardi with petals and buttons, which looked really cute on, and a button belt inspired by Pinterest. That was fun to make. I didn't do anything, but I had fun watching her hot glue all those buttons to the elastic. It is secured with a ribbon loop onto a bigger button and looked seriously adorable!

We had a ton of fun jazzing up our fall wardrobes!

Check out some pics:

From plain navy cardigan to beautiful statement piece

Shazam! Lightning bolts, baby!

Owls in love!
Button Belt

My first instinct once we did the owls was to iron on owls to everything. I almost ironed one onto my jeans while I was still wearing them! But, I had to remind myself less is more and take a break before I ended up ruining something by over doing. I LOVE the finished product!
Easy, cheap, and one of a kind. And so many possibilities!

Now for Fill In the Blank Friday:

1. A nervous habit I have is laughing weirdly and loudly. I do it anyway, but when I'm nervous or uncomfortable it gets worse.

2. Something that makes me sad is everything. I am way too sensitive. And been very emotional lately.

3. Today I am thankful for laughter.

4. My favorite room in my house is my shoe room. I have an entire room dedicated to my shoes and makeup. Please don't hate me, it just worked out that way when we moved into this house 2 years ago, we had an extra bedroom, and I was able to make it into pretty much a walk in closet/ work out room. (My treadmill is in there too.) I'm not that good at decorating, but I made it very girlie and fun in there.

5. I can't stand entitled/selfish/rude people. If I can smile and be nice, you can too. It's not that hard.

6. If I had an extra $100 to spend on whatever I wanted today I would taken my niece on a shopping spree. That would have been fun- she would have loved it!

7. The last person I hung out with was my brother, sister in law, niece and nephew having fun with glue, felt, buttons, ribbon, and baked goods!

On My Mind- Pumpkins & Crafting

In case you couldn't tell...I love pumpkins. The color, shape, flavor, everything.

They are so cute!

Pumpkin: bread, cake, cupcakes, muffins, soup, candy, cookies, pie, etc.

So why is it the Pumpkin Spice Latte that everyone covets is only 'meh' for me? I tried it for the first time a few years ago and thought it was disgusting. I think mine got made wrong.

I usually love all the seasonal drinks and I like to at least try each one that sounds good to me. Last winter I had the caramel brulee latte: meh. A few weeks ago I had the salted caramel mocha: meh. It was Ok, just didn't taste like a true salted caramel flavor. So today I decided to give the PSL another try. I asked for an extra pump of flavoring. This helped, but sadly, I am still not a fan. It was ok. I guess I enjoyed it. Would I order it again? No. I don't know what's wrong with me. The specialty flavors never pan out. They always look and sound better than I think they taste. In theory, I like everything about the PSL...but in reality it's just not for me. There, I said it. I feel so much better getting that off my chest. Please don't hate me, everyone!

Moving on ... These are the amazing pumpkin cupcakes that my sister-in-law made with the best cream cheese frosting EVER!! She has made this in cake form many times and I always request it. It's my fave. The cupcakes were so good! Even better the next day after they spent the night in the fridge and the frosting was cold and hardened and delicious! She puts pumpkin pie spice in the icing! I know, right? GENIOUS!

Aren't they pretty?
I bought her this cute, pink carrying case from Amazon for her and my bro's anniversary. I knew she would use it a lot and when we got together for a crafting night it made its maiden voyage to my mom's house.

We had so much food! I didn't get pictures of everything. We had lots of little snacky things, dips, etc. Don't these pasties look good? I love them. Every winter I stock up.
Crispy green beans! These were very good too.
We had the supplies to make cards, scrap booking stuff, stickers...so much stuff. The entire dining room table was covered in paper and glue sticks! I decided to stick to bookmarks that night because I: 1) love to read 2) found myself devoid of cute bookmarks 3) can't find the latest ones I bought on my last vacation and 4) got sick of using the free ones the library gives out.
For some reason I'm in the middle of about 100 books right now, so I needed a lot. I spent a few bucks on paper, my mom had the ribbon, and there are always stickers around. In one night, I made all of these. They are something pretty and fun that make me smile. I did lots of different versions. My sister-in-law also brought over her laminating machine! I have never know anyone to have their own portable laminator, but it was awesome! I only laminated a select few and the rest are just paper. Loving these! Something simple to brighten my day... it's the little things!
Side note: When I went to put the cute, new bookmarks into my various books, I realized I had been using a scrap of wrapping paper as a place holder in one, and a square of toilet paper in another! I guess these were more necessary than I thought!

Behold... the Shirt Skirt!

I was reading THE LITTLE THINGS WE DO and saw this awesome link for a DIY on how to turn a men's dress shirt into a women's skirt. I thought this was such a great idea, I immediately ran into the other MR's closet to see what I could pilfer since he was out of town. I "tried on" a few options just to get an idea of how the whole thing would work. While I almost took the scissors to a crisp black number, I decided I had better check with hubby first, lest I chop into his favorite or nicest shirt. Since I couldn't wait for him to get home, I did the next best thing and headed for the nearest thrift store. I found a few tops I liked that easily could have worked, but in the end I found this awesome, like new men's shirt originally from Target for $3. The original link says not to use stripes, but I did not have a problem with them. I like the look of a plain color, but I wanted something a little more exciting, so the fall color stripes were perfect for me (and not see through like a lot of the solid color ones I encountered.) I made the How-to even easier ( if that's possible) and managed to not sew a thing. I basically cut the collar out and then tied the arms around my waist. I still need to modify it a little to cut down on bunching, but it worked out really well. No one could believe it was a men's dress shirt. I will definitely try this again, especially if I find a great deal on another patterned or nicely colored top.
Another suggestion was to change out the buttons, which I also think would be really cute. So...what do you think?
