Fill In The Blank & A Few Little Things...

1. Today is a good day because the weekend is almost here!

2. The best thing I did all week was go through my dressers and get rid of stuff.

3. The current weather is slushy and it makes me feel like a block of ice .

4. The best thing about spring is the pretty colors!

5. A fashion trend that I'm dying to try out for spring is neon, color blocking, skinny colored denim.

6. A person who made me smile this week was my nephew. He is so stinking cute! Watching him eat a cookie with chocolate all over his face was pretty entertaining.

How can you see this and not smile?

7. The most delicious thing I ate all week was my mom made chili and cornbread. That was delish for a rainy and cold day. I also had a slice of lemon sour cream pie from the local bakery and it was awesome.

Did I mention I have a thing for owls?
LOVE THEM!
(Dark green nails with purple glitter accents.)

EARRINGS!!
And cupcakes.
It's a problem.
Icing is my weakness.

Recent Snapshots

A few small things going on in my life recently...

Adding to the owl obsession...

Pinterest inspired wall art done with a ton of help from my S-I-L
(ok, ok, she practically made the whole thing!)
The background is cut up book pages.
Loving this little pic I found in a Warhol book:
(Beauty is shoe, shoe beauty)

The print on a new sweater- my two favorite colors!

Another sweater from Urban Outfitters, I absolutely LOVE the cupcake on it, but the fit was off. Going back to the store, but I had to take a pic first
I scored this awesome mug on clearance @ Starbucks for half price.
I LOVE vespas!
I am also IN LOVE with LINK! Any other Zelda gamers out there?

The new edition is pretty cool- I'm working on my own game, by my little bro had it beat in matter of days. That's why I call him The Wizard.
(If you haven't ever seen this movie- DO IT! It's a classic in my family.)
~Skyward Sword~
Chocolate cupcakes with cream filling and chocolate whipped cream topping.
These were amazing!!! (courtesy of my S-I-L, of course. She's the cupcake wizard!!)

Food Pics

Food pics to hopefully make your Sunday night a little better!

My SIL made spanakopita (a Greek dish with spinach & feta wrapped in phyllo.)

It was SO GOOD!
Hot chocolate with a pile of mini marshmallows.
Another SIL creation- shortbread nutella sandwich cookies. Cut into flowers!

Ice cream sundae topped with whipped cream in a goblet.

It has been pouring for a weeks straight and this morning we got snow!

Here's the view from the back door of my parent's house.

I love adult snow days- just hope it clears up tonight or tomorrow.

Recent Acquisitions (Budget Friendly)

Some new purchases that are making me smile:

$5 for 3 pairs of cheap and cute dangly earrings from Target.
Good for someone who tends to lose or misplace things (me.)
Basic black flats get jazzed up with some cut outs and bling (from UO on clearance)

Skulls offset the sweet pastels on this scarf (from Kmart and super cheap)
A beautiful bow ring to sit on my finger and make me a living present.
The quality is really good for Target- the rhinestones look great up close and in person ($15)
LOVE my new arrow necklace! I have been wearing this everyday since I got it- OBSESSED!
(Buy here for $12. And another cute arrow necklace in gold.)
Look at this adorable bag my S-I-L made for me! (She is well aware of my love for owls.)
How awesome is this? I especially love the button eyes...so cute!

And last but not least...
a yummy choc cupcake with peanut butter frosting.
Very low budget at $2.75.
I am an addict.
I'll admit it.

Go Niners!

Niners beat the Saints!

That game was cray-cray everyone. Almost too intense to watch.

But the boys came through. I think it was because of me.

I went all out with the color coordination.

Red and Tan!

And even J.R. my pillow pet came along to the viewing/pizza party to show his support.

His name is now J.R. Davis in honor of Vernon, my new fave player and MVP.

Next up, they gotta beat the Packers. It's gonna be tough, but they can do it!

GO NINERS!

Other than that I plan on spending what's left of the weekend trying to tackle the enormous ongoing project of getting my disaster of a room organized and cleaned. I hauled one huge bag of clothes to the thrift store a few weeks ago and I've almost got another one filled.
I really hang on to stuff for too long.
Story of my life.
I'm getting better but it's a process.

I always feel better after I simplify, it's just hard for me in the moment to get rid of things.

My goal is get this done this weekend, by tomorrow. I have put it off long enough.
There will be a lot of coffee in my future.
Speaking of...

I made this New York Crumb Cake to enjoy with a cup of joe.

I've come to realize I'm not that good of a baker.
I can make a few things pretty well, but trying new things doesn't ever really work out or turn out the right way.
I also think I don't really like unsalted butter. Every time I use it I think that.
Is it ok to use salted instead even if the recipe calls for unsalted?
Any great bakers out there with some insight?
Sprinkling the powdered sugar on was the best part- besides licking the beater.
Side note: I made a HUGE mess in my kitchen.

Well I'm off to get prepared for my huge cleaning day tomorrow.
I hope I get it done before the Golden Globes so I can watch without feeling guilty.

I'll be back tomorrow with my picks for best dressed!

Random Food Pics

It's time for another hunger-inducing post!

Here's a few of the food pics my camera has been collecting from the last few weeks.

Some sweet, some savory- all delicious!

Scroll through at your own risk! :-)

First up: the last time my mom made a turkey. I had been having SEVERE turkey dinner cravings for a while and this meal did not disappoint. I went back three times and only stopped myself because of the pumpkin pie waiting to be devoured for dessert. I know everyone says this, but my MOM makes the best stuffing! It's my favorite turkey side dish and I OD on it every time. I have never been brave enough to attempt to make one on my own. I guess it's a good thing Mom's still around!

I know my plate could be more colorful, but I'm sorry, I don't like cranberry sauce or yams.
I stick to mostly the starches and once I've built my plate, I pour gravy over EVERYTHING!

These are the leftovers she sent me home with- they are as big as my head! Thanks, mom!

I made a ham for the first time! I was really intimidated by the size (20 lbs- it was on sale) and cooking process (3+ hours!), but I'm really glad I cooked him up anyway (hubby helped a lot.) It was worth the time because that thing turned out good! We made a glaze of butter, brown sugar, oj, honey and mustard and once it was done we used the juices as a gravy.
He fed us for a long time!
It was a huge bone-in ham ( not the spiral cut kind- in case you were wondering.)
This is a pic of the breakfast in couch the other mister served me a few weekends ago. He said it was a scary clown. Not sure about that one, but it tasted good- a bed of spinach topped with hash browns and bacon, topped with 2 fried eggs. Perfect for a Saturday morning brunch.

Gingerbread cupcake with cream cheese frosting- SO GOOD!

Pumpkin scone with maple glaze from my local coffee shop.

Pumpkin bagel with vanilla cream cheese. I look forward to this every year!
Half a chocolate whoopie pie... No top=more frosting= very happy me!
