OOTD- Elbow Patches!

I am obsessed with elbow patches! My little nephew was sporting them the other day and they were so cute. Then I found this sweater and knew I had to have it! It was a great deal at $17 and this skirt was only $15. Not too shabby.
In other very important world news, I finally broke out my tights. It was time- I had put it off long enough. My legs were toasty warm all day. I thought it was going to rain, but I didn't, so I was actually a little too warm. Kind of annoyed the weather won't make up its mind on what season it is...but I guess I shouldn't complain about warmth. Especially when the forecast for this weekend says more snow!
I'm planning on getting together with my sister-in-law on Thursday to add some DIY patches to some more of my cardigans. We're planning really cool shapes and colors. I hope they turn out the way I'm picturing. If I share the final product, you'll know they turned out awesome. If I never mention it again and these last few sentences get mysteriously edited out of this post...you'll know it was a disaster.

Love the subtle pleats

OOTD- Green Jeans

I remember a while back there was quite the controversy on Posessionista about green pants. Love them or hate them? I wasn't quite convinced at first and my gut instinct was NO...but now, I am drinking the Kool Aid. I'm all -aboard the color pants train and loving it!

Plus, how awesome is this cardi? I wish I could tattoo this sweater on me and never take it off.

Did anyone hear about the Albertus Swanepoel for Target collection? It didn't seem very well advertised, but I got this new hat from the line. It seems to be pretty good quality. There were a few hats from the collection that caught my eye. I might check out a different Target this weekend to see if they have any more cute ones in stock.

Stay warm this weekend!

Below: Pumpkins from my brother's house and a pic with 2 of my adorable nieces. Aren't they the cutest?

OOTD and Frosting is My Friend

Yesterday I went to sleep at 7:00. It was weird. I'm usually drinking caffeine at 7 , gearing up for the night. I was not feeling good and having issues. Hubby made me a sandwich at around 6:30, I tried to fight through it, and then gave in, took some Nyquil and was out. I got up at 4:00 and thought I was going to be up for good, but ended up going back to sleep until 8. So i think it's safe to say I am pretty well rested today. Feeling a lot better. Not 100%, but I think I'll live.

I have something very special to share with you: Really bad bathroom OOTD pictures! I guess it was only a matter of time before I took over the ladies room and turned it into a runway. This particular bathroom was the bathroom at Whole Foods, and it was extremely awkward taking these when someone came in and found themselves getting flashed in the face (with the camera flash, not body parts.) I could have explained "It's for my blog!" Instead I just stared and smiled as they walked by and then got the heck out of there before they had to wash their hands! Embarrassing!! Oh well, we've all been there, right? Right?

First, in the mirror...

Then in the corner by the trash can...
Thinking to myself, "Is this weird?"

Quick close-up shot of the lace detailing....and I'm out!
Thanks, Whole Foods, your bathrooms are so pristine. Let's not make this a regular thing though, OK?
I have a secret about this shirt...I got it at KMART! It's from the Selena Gomez teen line! Below: a pic of a few "celebs" wearing it! Celebs= Selena Gomez and the lesser known Kardashian sisters. I like it buttoned better, but the buttons are kind of flimsy and I didn't want to strain them all day against an actual chest- so I left it open and/or tied. I may switch out the buttons next time I wear it. It has cute elastic detailing at the waist that you can't really see when it's open. I love the colors though, and it was cheap. Is KMART even around anymore? I know my town has one, but I don't remember seeing them very often.

I am definitely a sweets girl, and for me...it's all about the frosting. Cake is good, but I more look at it as a vessel with which to deliver the frosting to me in the best possible way. I have been known to eat it straight from a bowl with a spoon. My sister in law always gives me the extras whenever she bakes, and I eat that straight up! And now, my favorite cupcake bakery is selling frosting by the tub! Oh Yeah, I am a happy girl! I believe frosting can cure all. I think it worked on me!!!

1. My favorite new blog of the moment is Just A Girl In A City. It's not new, but new to me. I love the pictures!

2. Something I am thankful for is my parents. They still take care of me even though I don't need them to.

3.
Something that made me laugh this week was my nieces. They were over at my mom's house today and playing dress up with them was so fun. We also decorated ginger bread cookies together. One of my nieces is even more obsessed with candy than the average kid so she had a blast! I think more made it in her mouth than on the cookie.

4. An item that is currently on my wish list is I'm still looking for a good pair of oxfords that don't make my legs look weird. I finally found an awesome midi length pleated skirt at H & M so I can cross that off my list!

5. I am excited about my sister's next visit. I can't wait!

6. If I were a color I would be red. Because I'm half Puerto Rican and that makes me fiery!

7. My favorite way to spend a chilly fall day is by
reading a really good book from start to finish. Especially if there's slippers, hot chocolate and a heat source involved. I also love taking walks in the brisk air and baking something that makes the house smell heavenly.

I hope I get to write some checks tomorrow! I thought the 1st was fun- so this is gonna be cool! Yes, I am a nerd and very easily amused.

Bye, everyone!

OOTD-Finally Fall Part 2

Today ended up being a very pretty day after my weekend of snow and despite the chilly air, I decided to take some detours around my little town and see what I could find.

I love taking time out from a busy day/week/month/year/life to appreciate all the beautiful things you can discover when you open your eyes, slow down, and take in a breath of fresh air.

You know those days when you leave house and forget something? This happens to me quite often. Sometimes I turn around and go back, sometimes I don't. Today I forgot my scarf and hat. Those are a necessity to me on any cold day and I was definitely missing them.
That brain freeze moment aside... outings like this help my constant restlessness and anxiety subside & all that's left is awe and delight.

Within all the orange and yellow, there is some green left.

I LOVE cords! Every fall, I am so excited to bust them out. If I had my way I would own a pair in every color of the rainbow. Actually, why stop at just pants? You name it, you can probably find it made out of corduroy: skirts, tops, jackets, not to mention accessories: hats, flats, sneakers, boots. Bring it on- let's see how much I can accumulate this season! This red pair is definitely brightening up my days!

Leaves on fire.
Even the fallen are eye catching.

My shadow was cold. It definitely missed my beanie too!

I hope there are some more bright and clear days ahead. If not, at least I have something documented. The few weeks before the chronic rain starts are the best!

My Weekend & TV Talk

Well, my weekend ended up being WAY more low key than I originally planned.
I got SNOWED in!
What started as rain on Saturday quickly turned into a very early snowfall.
I had to cancel all my plans for today, which means I spent my Sunday holed up by the fire.
It ended up being a nice, albeit unexpected, lazy day. I was somewhat productive- my pesky "tight drawer" finally got kinda organized, I did one load of laundry, and cleaned the kitchen (including doing many loads of dishes.) That was good enough for me!
More importantly , I got caught up on a lot of TV and finished my book.
I looked at this whole weekend as an adult snow day.

There's has been a lot going on TV-wise especially with all the new shows.

Please bear with me as I get some things off my chest...

First: Real Housewives of New Jersey:

This just turned into a HOT MESS, y'all. Where's the fun, the laughter , the good times? Everyone has just completely turned on each other and it is getting unbearable to watch. I think this pattern is inevitable. It happened in New York. Everyone started as friends and then look how the last season ended. A. BIG. HOT, MESS. Drama is one thing, but when you as a viewer can sense the hatred emanating from your TV screen, that 's not a good thing. If they can't stand to be around each other, why should I spend time with them each week? I would say I hope it gets better in the next season, but from the sound of things it doesn't seem like that's gonna happen. I, of course, am dying to know what happened the night before the reunion that made Jacqueline MIA and I know the cameras captured everything that went down, so I'll probably check out season 4 for that, but if it's all just back and forth, she said- she said,
friend vs. friend, pick a side crap...I'm out. Can't deal!

New Girl:

Funny, but she needs to tone it down just a schosh. We get it, you're quirky and adorable, but you don't have to be so in-your-face about it. Hoping this one finds it's stride in the next 10 episodes or so. It got picked up for a full season, so don't think it's going anywhere. But, I absolutely hate it when shows start out and then are put on hiatus 3 episodes in! Most of the time it's a death sentence because by the time it comes back people have forgot about it, moved on, or lost interest...so annoying!

Once Upon a Time:

Finally watched 1.5 episodes. Definitely a very interesting premise. I like the contrast of fairy tale to modern day and there's a lot of mysterious components that could be interesting. I just hope it doesn't run out of steam.

Amazing Race:

Loved the episodes in Malawi. I really want to visit there. I won't give too much away in case some of you are behind an episode or two, but I will say the team I picked to win it all during the very first episode is still in the game! I hope I'm right and they go all the way.

Dancing with the Stars:

This is one of the shows I got behind on because of scheduling conflicts on my DVR. I've caught a few episodes here and there, and I know my girl Ricki is still in it. I hope she takes home that mirror ball this year.

Up All Night:

This show is kind of hit and miss for me. I really wanted to like it, and I think the premise has a lot of potential, but it's another one that I don't think has found it's footing yet. I hope it gets better and funnier as the season continues.

The Office:

I did not think I would miss Steve Carell this much. I thought there was a strong enough back bone to carry the show without him, but I might have been wrong. I just need some Michael Scott in my life. If for no other reason than to remind me to be glad I don't have an ACTUAL Michael Scott in my life!

The Kennedys:

I'm so glad they are replaying this on REELZ channel, because I missed it the first time around. I know the reviews were mixed, but it did win some awards at the EMMYS. I think it's worth checking out, but if it doesn't hold my interest, I will probably end up giving up on it.

Chuck:

The new and final season just started again a few weeks ago. I taped them, but haven't watched them yet. I love this show, but am slightly glad it's ending before it gets completely ridiculous. That seemed to be the direction it was going in, so I hope they can reign in the hijinks and go back to the classic Chuck we know and love.

Now...onto FOOD!
My sister -in- law got me a box of Starbucks hot chocolate packets in Toasted Marshmallow. I was wondering where the toasted part was going to come in and look:

the little freeze dried marshmallows were huge and "toasted!" So cute! Now I know.
Thanks, K!

After inhaling the marshmallows, it's time for whipped cream. This can only be a "sometimes" treat because I re-squirt the whipped cream about a million times!

Since I am a short person, anything above the first shelf in the kitchen in no man's land for me. I was looking for a wine glass, climbed onto the counter, and found 2 of these mugs hidden on the very top shelf. I totally forgot about them. They were for some reason not on the coffee mug shelf and on the "nice glass" shelf. I blame the move (2 yrs ago.) They are back where they belong now, in my permanent rotation. (Until the next move.)

Sunday dinner: pasta with chicken and peas. Not pictured: Saturday night's leftovers and champagne...and Sunday morning's awesome pizza bagels hubby went out and got us for brunch.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!!

Concert Pics!

My ears are STILL ringing. I was complaining about it last night until I stopped for a second and thought to myself, "Yeah, it was totally worth it!"

That was one of the BEST concerts I have ever been to.
They played for almost three hours, almost every song I wanted to hear, did a Tom Petty cover, and pretty much rocked my world.
We got pretty close- actually closer than it looks in the pics. I stayed in the front for the show and then during the encore I went in the back so I could "dance" unencumbered. It was so much fun!
The charisma and stage presence of these guys is just amazing. They ain't gettin' any younger either!
I have to say, the term "Rock" is used way too loosely these days.
(Note: Coldplay is not rock.) But Foo really lives up what rock stars should be. I had a total blast! I'm gonna be living off this adrenaline rush for a long time. I'm so glad I got to go!

Here's me and my bro before we left.
I'm so excited- I'm flashing the DOUBLE thumbs up!
(Bro has weird look on his face- I think because he had just taken a HUGE bite of his dinner!)

These two pics were taken by the girl in front of me on her cell phone. I saw her take them and asked if she would send them to me. Thanks, JEN KENNEDY! You did me a solid.

GO, DAVE!

Love this one!

I also went to see one of my other favorite bands- CAKE a few weeks ago in Davis. That show was good too, even though they didn't play any of the songs I wanted to hear and only played for about an hour an a half. I found out later they are known not for not being that great live.
Kind of wish I had known that. But, I don't regret going. We still had a good time despite getting lost and then having to park miles away. Also, there was no opening band! Count on the one time I'm late to miss the first song! I was so bummed. But, I still got pretty close and had fun.

I know the pics are bad quality- but I'm still glad I got them. It's hard to hold the camera still and above everyone's head- especially if you're short like me!

I LOVE going to concerts! There's nothing like being in the pit- I'm talking general admission, arms pinned to your sides, so close you can see the sweat... It's the best! (There's also nothing like being talked into going to see someone you don't like, but that's a different story.)
I have seen many of my favorite bands, but there's still a few I need to cross off the list.
Slowly but surely!

Here's me with lil' bro. Hubby wanted to go, but ended up having to work, so I dragged my other brosky with me. Again the double thumbs up- I'm really excited!!

I love all types of Cake, and this is no exception.
Disco ball!

I thought my niece was going to be around this weekend, so I had some tentative plans of things to do with her. But, that didn't end up happening. So I will be having a very low key next few days. Mostly cleaning and catching up on TV.
Have a good one!
Hopefully I'll be able to hear again by Monday!
