Behold... the Shirt Skirt!

I was reading THE LITTLE THINGS WE DO and saw this awesome link for a DIY on how to turn a men's dress shirt into a women's skirt. I thought this was such a great idea, I immediately ran into the other MR's closet to see what I could pilfer since he was out of town. I "tried on" a few options just to get an idea of how the whole thing would work. While I almost took the scissors to a crisp black number, I decided I had better check with hubby first, lest I chop into his favorite or nicest shirt. Since I couldn't wait for him to get home, I did the next best thing and headed for the nearest thrift store. I found a few tops I liked that easily could have worked, but in the end I found this awesome, like new men's shirt originally from Target for $3. The original link says not to use stripes, but I did not have a problem with them. I like the look of a plain color, but I wanted something a little more exciting, so the fall color stripes were perfect for me (and not see through like a lot of the solid color ones I encountered.) I made the How-to even easier ( if that's possible) and managed to not sew a thing. I basically cut the collar out and then tied the arms around my waist. I still need to modify it a little to cut down on bunching, but it worked out really well. No one could believe it was a men's dress shirt. I will definitely try this again, especially if I find a great deal on another patterned or nicely colored top.
Another suggestion was to change out the buttons, which I also think would be really cute. So...what do you think?

OOTD- Teal and Loving It

I wore this outfit on Sunday as a last attempt to utilize my summer clothing before it's too late. Like I said before, that Fall is a-looming over head. I am excited to delve back into cardis and tights and boots...I just need a few more weeks to showcase the last of my whites. Today was the first day I noticed it was almost dark when I was taking my pictures. I'm going to have to seriously rethink my photo taking routine once it is dark and rainy. I am currently "scouting" my house to see if I can find a place and setup that will work if I am confined indoors. Not looking forward to that folks. *sigh* Summer lovin' had me a blast...but all good things must come to an end. On a happier note, I have a lot of great posts coming up this week. Pics from the favorite things blog swap I participated in, a DIY outfit and...I finally made my way to Target, so I have a Missoni update too!

EMMY AWARDS

Hi, everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend!

As you may know, I was just a little bit excited for the Emmys.

Jane Lynch killed it, no?

There were some great moments: My girl Melissa McCarthy took home a trophy! Love her from way back (Gilmore Girls and Samantha Who.) The whole show was so good! Except for Charlie Sheen... was he trying to be funny? Trying to be sarcastic? I did not get his little presentation intro. Even though I didn't get it, it did make me very uncomfortable...
so at least there's that.

While I enjoyed almost every second of the broadcast, the real drama, comedy, and winning moments happened on the red carpet.

Some of my favorite looks:

Above: Emily Blunt in Elie Saab

Below: Kelly O in J Mendel

Jayma Mays in Zuhair Murad

Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang

Martha Plimpton in Zac Posen

and Cat Deeley in Monique
Now onto the not so fortunate looking ones...

I know, I know...it pains me to put Gwynnie (wearing Pucci) in the worst dressed category. Just last week I was singing her praises in that sick Prada gown. I was so excited to see what she would wear....This? Really? This is what I get?? *Sigh*

I was also excited to see the Miss Lea Michele...
I like this look OK- it just reminded me way too much of this:
I thought for sure it was McQueen as well, but it's actually by Marchesa. Kind of confused on this one...not really a fan.

There were also some looks that I was slightly on the fence about. What do you think? Love or hate? Vote Below!

Heidi in Christian Siriano

Sarah Hyland, also in Christian Siriano

Julie Bowen in Oscar de la Renta (wish her hair was all the way up)

Heather Morris

Kristen Wiig in Zac Posen

Have a great weekend!

OOTD and Fill In The Blank

There was some crazy lightning as I was driving home last night. It rained a little too. I don't know why I didn't grab a sweater because I definitely could have used one. I was making my way up the road to my house and I thought, "Shouldn't I be driving AWAY from the storm?" I seemed to be headed right for it and the sky kept lighting up completely bright white every minute or so. It was a little scary but I turned on my car heater for the first time in months and I forgot how good it smells and feels when you're cold.

Top: J Crew, Skirt: Anthro, Heels: Dollhouse

I love these earrings from F21...
I'm biding my time until next week when I can get a much needed hair cut. My ends are in desperate need of a trim. I decided to put my hair back in a messy multi bun thing...
I had so many bobby pins in there I doubt I could have made it through a metal detector.

Up close deets:

And now, another riveting edition of F.B.F.

1. You should always take time to brush your teeth and wash your face, no matter how tired or busy you are.

2 People who are genuinely kind make the world a happier place to be.

3. I can hardly wait for all my TV shows to start back up and the TWO concerts I'm going to in October. And my sister's next visit.

4. Wednesday is my favorite day of the week.

5. Something totally dumb and ridiculous that I love is kittens doing funny things on YouTube. That and ICANHASCHEEZBURGER.COM- I spend way too much time on there and I laugh like a crazy person the entire time.

6. If I could, I would fly!!

7. I rather like
my black toms...even though they are technically not toms. they are fake rip offs- shhhhhhhh....don't tell anyone! :-)

OOTD and Target Update

So I ended up not going to sleep until 3 am this morning. I said I was going to bed at 1, but I decided to drag out my library book that was due and continue to check Target's website. I read and refreshed for 2 hours. Every time a new word came up or something changed on the Missoni page, I got excited. But the products never came up. When I woke up I checked again and got the WOOF! Bullseye dog telling me basically the site was getting slammed and to try back later.

I have heard all sorts of craziness about stores being out of stock by 10:00 am. I have pretty much given up on this one, which is OK since if I really had wanted to I could have made a point of being at my actual store when it opened. I'm going to keep checking the website and maybe in a day or two venture to the store. I'm sure there will be nothing left, but I'll still check it out and see. I promised my sis a candle, bobby pins, something. We'll see if I end up with anything when all is said and done.

As the reality of fall looms over my head I am slightly in panic mode. So many summer clothes left to wear, so little time. I think I was inspired by The Help book cover.

Did you snag any of the Missoni for Target collection? See any brawling in the aisles??

Miss Universe & Missoni for Target

Do not read this if you do not know who won the Miss Universe Pageant and you don't want to find out.

Of all the major pageants -USA, America, Universe- Miss Universe is the best. It's always in some cool location and with 89 women from all over the world it's the most diverse and exciting, in my opinion. You know after watching 10 or 20 of the opening lines you wanna grab your hair straightener and scream out your name, age, and country of origin. I was doing this all night long. I say mine with an accent: PWWWEEERRRTO REEEEECCCOO ... even though I speak absolutely no Spanish. It's funner that way. (Yes, I know funner isn't a word, but I say it anyway. And to answer your other question, yes my dad is 100% full Puerto Rican and my grandparents were born there.) While I love the show and I never miss a year, it's 2 hours of television I watch in about 20 minutes. There is a lot of filler and unnecessary product promotion that I zoom through. The best part is obviously the evening gowns and
The. Final. Question.

In regards to the evening gowns, it was like sheer, see through bottom city. Quite a few of the ladies had their legs completely out there. I was kind of disappointed overall in the looks.
I thought Costa Rica had the best dress:
I also liked China:

and Ukraine

The judges are always a random mix, but didn't Connie Chung look great? I couldn't find a picture of her but she looked really good.

Now, not to toot my own horn, but I had Angola as one of my top picks from the very beginning. (This ain't my first rodeo people.) She was so pretty! Then in the evening gown portion, while I didn't particularly care for her choice of gown, the color looked beautiful on her. And do you know how hard it is to walk down stairs without looking at them, in 5 inch heels wearing a dress so tight you can't breathe? That takes skillz, yo. During the final question she was so charming even though I couldn't understand anything she was saying, I was mesmerized by her smile. So, Congrats, Angola!

Now moving on to the Missoni for Target collection. I have been checking online ever since midnight and nothing. Even the ad says it will be available bright and early on the 13th. They usually do have their Go International collections available at midnight, so what gives? It's now 12:41. I'm waiting 20 more minutes before calling it a night and trying to wake up early-ish to check it out tomorrow. Hopefully, there will still be something left. Hey, I'm not picky... I would be happy with a single place mat. As long as it's a pretty one.
Goodnight, everyone!
